A l’origine, comme nous devions aller à NYC pour y fêter le Nouvel An, j’avais choisi the Refinery Hotel pour son rooftop donnant sur l’Empire State Building. De ce fait, nous aurions pu amplement profiter des feux d’artifices au premier plan comme de grands veinards. Car autant vous le dire dès le début: leur rooftop est dément ! Bref, finalement ça ne s’est pas fait et quand nous avons décidé d’y aller la semaine dernière j’ai à nouveau réservé chez eux. Et je ne le regrette pas une seconde: le service est vraiment top.

As we had planned to spent New Year’s Eve in New York I had at that time booked our stay at theRefinery Hotel because of their rooftop with the super view on the Empire State Building. But we had to cancel it. So last week, when we decided to spend a last minute weekend in NYC, I booked again over there.

And I do not regret a minute spent in this great hotel !

 Emplacement: 63W 38ST

Il est difficile de faire plus central que le Refinery Hotel. Tous les endroits à ne pas manquer à Midtown sont dans son périmètre. Tout est faisable à pieds. En ce qui nous concerne, nous n’avons pas pris un seule fois le métro.

→ Alors oui, ya d’autres hôtels dans le quartier mais pas avec le même rooftop !!!

It will be difficult to find a great hotel like the Refinery Hotel + an outstanding rooftop with such an overview of the Empire State Building. This is one of a kind, guys !

You will able to discover everything Upper Midtown has to offer by foot: no need to ride the subway when staying there.

La Chambre : Studio King

Je n’ai pas pris la plus petite chambre, ni la grande suite Atelier. La Studio King est top, parfaite pour un week-end en amoureux quand on a envie de se faire plaisir. Le lit est immense, la literie super confortable (nous avons dormi comme des bébés) et puis la salle de bain. Oh My ! Je suis tombée amoureuse de la salle de bain. Petite mais tellement fonctionnelle, avec sa douche incroyable: j’aurais pu y passer le weekend entier et envoyer bouler tout le reste ! Ah, j’ai failli oublier les options au niveau de l’éclairage: c’est juste topissime de pouvoir choisir si l’on veut une pleine lumière ou juste quelque chose de tamisé. Gros petit plus en ce qui me concerne !

→ Le style de la chambre est complètement raccord avec le reste de l’hôtel: j’ai adoré ce côté 1920 / prohibition/ un brin steampunk. Cet hôtel a un charme fou !

→ Au niveau du bruit, en dehors du fait que l’on a pu entendre à quelques reprises une voisine marcher avec ses talons, cela n’a pas du tout été insupportable. Et j’ai très bien dormi le reste du temps.

The room : Studio King

I did not book the smallest room, neither the grand suite Atelier. The Studio King is great, perfect for a little getaway between lovers. The bed is huge and the bedding awesome and super confortable (we slept like babies). And the bathroom ? Oh My ! Small but so cosy and functional. I felt in love with the shower. I could stay hours in there and forget about everything else !!

I almost forgot about the lighting options featured in the room and bathroom. It’s just so perfect to be able to adjust the light as we want it: bright or subdued atmosphere. It was just the big surprising little extra to make this stay perfect !

→ The room decor is true to the rest of the hotel and I really loved this one of a kind 1920 / prohibition / steampunk style !

→ About the noise: we heard a neighbor walking with stilettos some time but then it was over. We slept like babies the whole night and next morning. I don’t know if we were lucky or what but it was great to not be bothered by noise issues.

Le Rooftop

Qui dit rooftop démentiel, dit lieu tendance. Et c’est quelque chose dont on s’est rendu compte lors de notre séjour: les week-ends, c’est the place to be. DJ, cheminée, cocktails et ambiance démesurée en haut; incroyable file d’attente treize étages plus bas.
Ce qui est bien, c’est qu’un seul ascenseur est réservé pour les soirées sur le rooftop et non seulement il est impossible d’accéder aux autres étages sans sa carte de chambre mais en plus un portier accompagne chaque montée et descente.

→ La vue sur l’Empire State Building est vraiment magique !

The Rooftop

This is the place to be, guys ! The place is gorgeous & outstanding ! I wasn’t sure about the trendiness of the place before booking but we were able to witness this when being there. Though, the line to the elevator was huge.

Everything seemed under control by the security staff and no one can access to the rest of the hotel floors without a room key.

→ The view on the Empire State Building is really gorgeous and magical !

Le service

→ Le staff est hyper sympa, très accommodant. Par exemple, on voulait prendre des photos de nuit de l’Empire State Building mais à cause du blizzard et de la neige des jours précédents, l’accès à la partie extérieure était fermée au public. Or, on a pu y faire un tour et prendre quelques photos !

→ J’ai adoré leurs badges. Lors du check-out, j’ai fait des compliments à ce sujet et là le manager est allé m’en chercher un et me l’a offert. J’ai trouvé cela super cool car je n’avais strictement rien demandé.

The Service

→ The staff is super kind and very helpful. For exemple, we wanted to take pictures of the Empire State Building by night but because of the blizzard and the snow from the past days, the outside access of the rooftop was closed. But they allowed us to go (carefully) just to took some pictures !

→ I loved their badges. At the check-out, I complimented them about that and the manager went to the back office and came back with one for me as a gift. I did not ask for it so I was truly happy about it ! It was a nice and cool gesture !

Le miam

→ Depuis que l’on s’octroie des petites escapades en hôtels de luxe, j’aime pouvoir tester la qualité du room-service et ensuite du petit-déjeuner. C’est pour moi la base pyramidale de mon expérience au sein de chaque nouvel hôtel auquel nous allons. Et je suis très critique à se sujet ! (Bon, du moins tout autant que la propreté de la chambre, ha !).

Le restaurant “partenaire” du Refinery Hotel est Parker and Quinn. Je n’ai pas été super satisfaite et j’en parlerai dans un futur article. Cependant, le room-service est super rapide.

Yummy time

→ Every time we try a new luxury hotel, I like to be able to test two features: the room service and the breakfast. For me, it’s the pyramidal base of the whole experience when you stay at a great hotel. And I am very critic with that subject ! (Well, at least, it’s as important as the cleanliness of the room !).

The restaurant working with the Refinery Hotel is Parker and Quinn. I did not like it much and I’ll talk about it in a future post. However, the room service was really fast.

Conclusion: ★★★★☆

Nous avons vraiment beaucoup apprécié cet hôtel pour de multiples raisons citées plus haut et je le recommande à quiconque veuille y séjourner.

Cependant, il y a à mes yeux deux points négatifs qui ne sont préjudiciables que pour les personnes partageant les mêmes valeurs que les miennes et qui ne sont donc pas forcément représentatives du profil de la clientèle visée par le management du Refinery Hotel:

→ L’hôtel se veut être green mais ça ne semble pas être le cas de la société qui s’occupe du nettoyage des serviettes de bain. Ayant la peau super sensible, je peux certifier que les produits utilisés sont loin d’être doux. C’est dommage.

→ Peter and Quinn n’est pas à la hauteur du standing de l’hôtel. C’est super décevant.

Overall : ★★★★☆

We really appreciated this hotel for so many reasons. I mean, just read the whole post: the place is really really great and I will recommend it to friends and fellows.

However, I think there are two negative points that have a detrimental effect on people sharing the same values than me and whom are not representatives of every client coming to the Refinery Hotel:

→ The hotel is green but it doesn’t seem to be the same for the laundry company where the towels are cleaned. My skin is very sensitive and I can testify that the products used are not very gentle. This is bad, for me.

→ Peter and Quinn is certainly a good place but I don’t felt it being on the same wavelength than the Refinery Hotel standing. Sad.
