Avant tout, je pense qu’il est important que je décrive ce que j’appelle Upper-Midtown. En gros, ce sont les trois quartiers supérieurs de Midtown, soit Hell’s Kitchen, Midtown et East Midtown. Il y a plein de choses à voir à Upper Midtown. Et je sais que si c’est la première fois de ta vie que tu y mets les pieds tu ne voudras rien rater. Mais à moins d’avoir un temps illimité à New York, cela me semble un peu compromis. Il va donc falloir faire des choix.

UpMid regroupe tout plein d’attractions ultra touristiques:

First of all, let me explain to you what I call Upper-Midtown: it’s easy, it’s the three upper neighborhoods of Midtown. (Hell’s Kitchen, Midtown and East Midtown) Incredible, right ? And there is a lot to see in Upper-Midtown. And I also know that the first time you come to NYC, you want to be able to see everything. But we all know that unless you have unlimited time in the Big Apple, you will have to make some compromises.

Et la meilleure façon de faire des choix c’est de savoir pourquoi on vient visiter ce quartier de New York. Est-ce pour le shopping ? Juste pour se dire qu’on a tout vu et prendre des instagram de chaque building célèbre ? Pour s’en prendre plein les yeux ? Ou simplement pour s’imprégner de l’ambiance et savourer chaque nouveau block qui se présente à toi ?

And the best way to make the best choices is to know why you came exactly to NYC. Is it for shopping ? Is it to make selfies in front of the most famous buildings and attractions of the city? To be completely amazed by the craziness ? Or just to enjoy the mood and the atmosphere of every new block you walk by ?

En ce qui me concerne, je suis folle d’architecture mais surtout de pépites urbaines. J’aime m’engouffrer dans les rues qui ne sont pas bondées de touristes (c’est mon côté sauvage je suppose) et surtout, j’aime découvrir des choses par moi-même et me rendre compte qu’elles ne figurent pas dans les guides touristiques.
J’aime déambuler au gré de mes envies du moment et je ne regrette jamais (ou très rarement) de ne pas avoir eu le temps de rendre visite à un site en particulier parce qu’il est mentionné comme étant le truc à ne pas louper.

Et je peux t’assurer qu’à chaque fois j’en ressors grandie par ce que j’ai vu et ressenti.

As far as I’m concerned, I love architecture but I’m really fond of urban gold nuggets. I love to discover new street tourists free and mostly, I like to discover new places by myself and check that they do not figure in any kind of city guide.

(yeah, this is really ambitious !).

I love to wander through the streets with no real aim but just enjoy the present moment. And to be honest with you, I have never (or rarely) regretted the fact that I didn’t visit an attraction in particular.

And I can also assure you that every time I ended grown up by what I had discover and felt !

Donc pour moi, les choses à ne pas rater à Upper Midtown, sont:

So, according to me, Upper Midtown must see are:

 → Il faut se perdre dans les dédales de la gare, aller sur les quais, découvrir tous ces petits détails art-deco qui font la beauté de ce site. Ne pas oublier de passer par l’Annexe du Musée des transports ferroviaires où se trouve la gare en modèle réduit. C’est la maquette la plus incroyable au monde que j’ai pu voir. Amazing.

 → Lost yourself in the station’s labyrinthe ! Go look after different platforms. Enjoy the craziness of the atmosphere and try to inventory all the small art-deco details you can find on your way. You’ll see, this is the true magic of Grand Central Terminal. Don’t forget to go by the transit museum annex where you will find the incredible and beautiful train model.

→ Cette bibliothèque que l’on pense connaitre par coeur parce que vue dans moult scènes de films et séries tv, a été la grande claque de ce week-end. Elle est exceptionnellement majestueuse et donne envie de dévorer tous ces livres que l’on s’était juré de lire. J’en suis ressortie avec des paillettes dans les yeux. (En plus les toilettes sont gratuites et propres)
Juste derrière, se trouve Bryant Park. Cette année, la fontaine a complètement gelé. C’était incroyable à voir.

 → This is the Library that everybody seems to know by heart because of the movies and the Tv shows featuring it. But it’s so wrong, guys. New York Public Library is a magnificent gem. I loved this place. Please, stop by and lost yourself in there. You won’t regret it. (Therefore, there are public and super clean restrooms).Also, just behind it, you’ll find Bryant Park. This year, the fountain was completely frozen. It was such incredible to see. In fact, I had never seen such a thing !

→ Cette mini parcelle que constitue Garment District est le grand quartier de la mode aux USA. Il y a de nombreux ateliers de confection ainsi que plein de magasins de marchandise textile. Ce qui m’a sauté aux yeux est le nombre impressionnant d’immeubles ayant pignon sur rue. Et puis cette atmosphère qui ressort de tout ces petits magasins de tissus, d’apprêts, de perles et de boutons, c’est indescriptible.

Ma boutique préférée ? Lou Lou Buttons (69 W 38 St) => le royaume pour tous les amoureux de boutons en tous genres. Je n’en ai jamais vu autant ! C’est magique.

→ This little neighborhood is just THE fashion hood ! There are lots of couture ateliers and also lots of beads, buttons and fabrics shops.

Some building’s facade are beyond gorgeous and you can also spy a lot of casting auditions !

My favorite shop ?
Lou Lou Buttons (69 W 38 St) => this little shop is the button kingdom. If you are some button lover, you will never want to get out of it ! Such a magical place.

→ Je rêvais d’y aller pour l’Exposition de Matisse et c’était canon. Malheureusement, nous n’avons pas eu le temps de tout visiter. Ce n’est que partie remise.

→ I was dying to visit the MoMA, and specially Henri Matisse’s Exhibition. We did not had enough time to see everything but we will sure come back soon !
Do not forget to take a look about their super gift shop ♥♥♥

→ Rockefeller Center, nous l’avions visité il y a cinq ans. Par contre, Top of the Rock était encore en rénovation. Cette fois-ci, le temps était vraiment couvert donc on en a conclu que dépenser $60 pour une visibilité quasi inexistante serait dommage. Mais c’est clairement quelque chose à ne pas rater ne serait-ce que pour la vue incroyable sur Manhattan.

→ The first time we came to NYC, we only could visit the Rockefeller Center because Top of the Rock was still on renovations. This time, we decided not to go because of the bad weather. It was not worth to waste $60 and see nothing from there. But we will go the next time for sure because I do not want to miss again Manhattan’s gorgeous views.

→ Les prix peuvent refroidir, la barrière de la langue aussi MAIS ne jamais avoir vu dans sa vie un spectacle à Broadway, c’est vraiment dommage.

Je te conseille de commencer par Le Roi Lion ou Aladdin. Tu connais probablement déjà ces dessins animés, ce ne sera donc pas difficile de suivre le musical.

→ The prices can seem outrageous but you do know how it’s unforgettable to watch a show on Broadway !

We chose The Lion King and all I can say is that it was outstanding !

→ Le marché aux puces de Hell’s Kitchen:
Comme son nom l’indique, c’est un marché aux puces; par contre, il est non couvert et est animé tous les week-ends de l’année. J’ai été un poil désenchantée pour deux raisons : le peu de vendeurs (mais chapeau bas à ceux qui défient le froid de l’hiver) & les prix excessivement chers ! Cependant, c’est toujours agréable de farfouiller sur les étals, il y a de très jolis articles. Et les amoureux de pièces vintages ne seront déçus que d’une chose: ne pas s’appeler Crésus !

→ Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market :
This is an outdoor and yearly flea market. I was i bit frustrated for two reasons: not much vendors because of the cold winter (so high five for the one present that day) and the overpriced items.

However, it’s super enjoyable to rummage from the stands. There was a lot of pretty vintage treasures.

Vintage lovers will be disappointed about one thing: not being rich !
